The Loren Hotel and Paggi House are thrilled to announce Paggi House’s next exhibition— Entropy, by mixed-media artist, Diane Tuft. Tuft's photographs will be exhibited throughout Paggi House’s three exhibition spaces.
Born and raised in East Hartford, Connecticut, Tuft graduated from the University of Connecticut with a degree in mathematics. She later studied photography at The New School as well as the International Center of Photography. She continued her art education in the 1980s at Pratt Institute. Since 1998, Tuft has traveled the world recording the environmental factors shaping Earth’s landscape. Widely recognized as one of today’s most distinctive voices in contemporary photography, Tuft creates images that exist at the intersection of documentation, abstraction, and landscape.
“Tuft’s extraordinary work is both visually mesmerizing and unsettling,” says Penny Liebman Aaron, curator for Paggi House. “She draws viewers in with luscious visuals and then challenges them to reconsider the fragile relationship between beauty and environmental change.”
Tuft’s work has been exhibited internationally, with solo presentations at venues including the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County; the Multimedia Art Museum in Moscow; ROSPHOTO in St. Petersburg, Russia; the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C.; Marlborough Gallery and Leila Heller Gallery in New York City; the Bruce Museum in Greenwich, Connecticut; and the Southampton Arts Center in New York. Her photographs are included in the permanent collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, the International Center of Photography, the Nevada Museum of Art and the Parrish Art Museum, among others. Tuft is also an award-winning director and producer of multiple short films, including “Coastal Requiem” (2019). She lives and works in New York City.
